A Grave Search for Meaning

Entry: The objective existence of the world and the growth logic in digital space are re-observed on the premise of transforming feelings and ascending dimension.

In the concept of a very short time, few femtoseconds close to zero, the possibilities and the impossibilities fractal function created are able to generate images by using data visualization. Zero as the starting point, re-observe the objective existence of the world, and extends it from the philosophical aspect to the hidden phenomenon of energy transition.

Curious and confused, we slowly fade away in our sleep trying to discover the essence of our existence.

Essence of Existence

In a quiet corner of  a darkened room, something extraordinary is taking place. 
Motors whirr, screens buzz, and cellular information is being transferred from one organism to another. 
In a bid to find new ways to feed the world, a small group of scientists are taking what remains of animal life, and copying the vital building blocks across to other lifeforms. Their hope is to grow meat in the same way the previous generation grew fruit. 

But will their experiment be successful? and what are the consequences?

Definition of ratio is a relationship between two or more things, in this piece the intriguing spiral binds together not just mathematical expression but the love of two. This piece was formed by using human creativity mixed it with machine learning, collaborating between GAN and digital painting.

En Route

A redesign, an ode to an icon of design history. 

Based on chair No. 14, also known as the Consumer Chair. A design undoubtedly recognizable, because it’s been around since the 19th century. First designed in 1859 by Michael Thonet and redesigned numerous times since, chair No. 14 and the ones that evolved from it are still some of the most prominent pieces of furniture, two centuries later. 

The name is a wink to the Ethereum blockchain and the worldwide digitalization, which will likely impact the evolution of furniture design. The flowing particles reforming back to their original shape are a metaphor for how every iteration ultimately echoes the first creation.

Thonet(h)

The piece was inspired by Dali's Le Sommeil (Sleep) but instead of an old man, we see a baby, a symbol for new life, a new beginning, a revolution in art and in thought.
The floating eth symbols are inspired by The Endless Column by internationally acclaimed Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi, symbolizing the concept of infinity.
The baby is sitting on a floating canvas symbolizing the fabric of space-time, on top of which lie the stars in the Universe. Looking at a blue planet with a small moon besides it, the baby is pondering its future: he will be the one to shape it.
Dali's piece was called Sleep. This is my interpretation of what the old man was dreaming about.

the drΞam

Time was unmoving since the woman last saw her heart, which had taken the form of a pear. It remained lost to her for so long that she scarcely recalled the feeling of having it. 
She had heard that the Black Swan had discovered her heart and, in possessing it, turned it into a vision of himself. At first, having an identical twin lessened his loneliness. He could talk to the vision and hear the echoes of himself, and he could pretend that he was no longer a solitary creature, but only for a short time. 

One night the Black Swan opened the door and looked out at the horizon, holding the mountain light and the full moon on its back, a home where other black swans had once resided. He began to imagine a Swan Heaven, a place where he could be understood more deeply. Among the beauty of the stars and the outpouring of the universe, the dream came to him about leaving the palace and searching for his lost soul elsewhere. He mused about the Swan Heaven until he looked around and saw only his shadow. The magic of the pear-heart had dimmed for the Black Swan and he tired of the use of its enchantment. He abandoned the heart there in the room with the view where strange flowers grew.

Room with a View

Our minds are dreaming us into existence, having us caught up in its fantasies and nightmares through thoughts, all of which revolve around a sense of “I”. Most of the time these thoughts permeate an endless “to do” list or for some, inadequacies, reeling them into its storm and fever dreams. Making one falsely believe that once those issues have been solved peace will come—the storm will stop. However, regardless of how careful one is it’s impossible to avoid some storms—fear, sadness, and anger—these emotions are part of our basic biological programming. Ironically, in our effort to protection ourselves from this agony, we create a life that naturally elicit it. It is only when we are not lost in the dream, focused on the present and not acting out the pattern of our conditioning that true happiness can flourish.

Artist Statement
Inspired by the formerly mechanical photographic technique of slit scan, Mia’s practice embraces video and digital techniques to expand and bend time. Fflowers are sourced and arranged in studio, filmed, and then a series of digital manipulations take place to reveal futuristic botanicals. 

As the flowers bloom and stretch toward a re-imagined future, they form a surreal DNA-like helix structure, inviting the audience to contemplate how species morph, change, survive, and thrive over time.

I created this piece while visiting Barcelona at the start of 2022. I was heavily inspired by the city. It’s energy, museums, and overall design. Art on every corner, a mix of the 21st century and narrow Medieval streets. This piece depicts color and transformation.
